Locusts – Bulk Bag of 100 – Weekly

Locusts Locusts are strictly vegetarian. They eat fresh Spring Greens, insecticide-free grass, cabbage and Herbie Mix Gut Load. Locusts are popular food for all sizes of lizards. Slightly slower moving than Crickets, they are easier for lizards to catch and eat. If a lizard keeper should over-feed there is no danger of them biting the lizards back. Locusts are particularly good for feeding indoors as any escapees will find it impossible to survive for long. Providing more nutrition than many other live food insects can, they are nurtured on a very highly nutritious diet consisting of Spring Greens and Herbie Mix Gut Load. Adults are one of the largest live food insect source that are farmed, or bred for the livefood industry. They also have an amazing growth rate, from hatching out of its egg pod to being able to reproduce itself will take 42 days if kept in ideal conditions. The Locusts should reach approximately 7cm. Also, its not only the size that make them an attractive food source to predators, but the bright yellow wing case and abdomen, making a perfect treat for large chameleons or geckos. Additionally, they are an excellent food for various small Primates, including Galapagos, Marmosets, Tamarins etc. Locusts are also valuable for large birds such as Jays, Magpies and other Corvids, Jay-Thrushes etc. Small and medium sized are an important part of many rearing soft billed bird diets too. It is recommended that all Livefood is transferred to more spacious tubs with good ventilation on arrival as well as being kept well fed. We also supply these in a bulk bag option of either 50 or 100, as well as as part of our subscription service. All our Locusts are packed to order. To allow us to keep postage costs to a minimum and also reduce our use of plastics, multiple tubs of the same size may be combined. We will however always ensure that tubs are not overcrowded and the label will always detail the exact contents to ensure clarity.
